Commemorating the 70th anniversary
of the declaration of World War II

Stroud Theatre Company presents

WHEN THE LIGHTS WENT OUT!
by Mike Akers

A captivating story celebrating
the home front heroes

Touring Gloucestershire and Nationally
October 12th - November 29th 2009

After it's sell out seven week tour in 2008, this brand new play written by South West playwright, Mike Akers, is to tour again in the Autumn 2009.

2009 is the 70th year since the declaration of war in September, 1939.

Margaret Brooks is a happy-go-lucky eighteen year old when war is declared. Living with her family on their small farm, she knows precious little of the world, apart from what she sees in the movies. Her life is turned upside down with love, loss and liberty and like many women she finds herself doing things she never dreamed she'd be doing.

Romance, tragedy, music of the time and arc welding combine in this uplifting story of the home front heroes.

“Very sincere and inspiring..” “Fantastic direction, brilliant acting..” (Somerset)

“ Last night four of us attended your performance in the Lenham Community Centre.
I would like you to know that in 35 years I have been watching productions in Lenham,
not one has remoteley come up to the standard that you gave us last night.
Your production was simply superb.” (Lenham)

“Beautifully and sensitively done” (Kent)

“Every aspect of this play was superb. Great value for money.
Tightly written, imaginative set and costumes…the audience age ranged from 8-80
and everyone was touched and mesmerised. This deserves a wider audience.” (Gloucester)
